'Twas the night after shutdown, when all through the plant
Not a creature was stirring, not even an ant;
The tools were all stored in place with care,
Hoping that OSHA would never be there.
While walking the plant, I heard an awful hiss
I had to go find what was amiss.
Over to the hose I flew like a freak,
Only to find a huge compressed air leak.
Back in the office, the utility bill in hand,
I began to question, “What is my air demand?”
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a service truck loaded with audit gear,
And a mechanic so smart and quick,
I knew in a moment, he was no hick.
He pulled item after item from his tool chest
One instrument then another, each one the very best.
kW and amps, flow and pressure,
For each one, let’s get an accurate measure.
To the compressor room, to the plant floor,
Let’s find the problem, get to the core.
Lock out, tag out, do it the right way,
No reason to be hasty and get hurt this day.
Goggles, gloves, shoes and arc flash gear,
Wear your PPE and have no fear.
A week later, what do we have to see,
But an AirSuite audit that gave me no glee.
Leaks, load sharing, inappropriate uses,
Many bad habits, we have no excuses.
With all the problems laid open and bare,
Our maintenance team began to repair
Hoses, open blows and vacuum generators,
All those things now seem like traitors.
One month later, our auditor returned,
With his expert advice, our trust he had earned.
A follow up audit was in store
Inappropriate uses and leaks no more.
Good news, our demand is down,
I was so happy, I told everyone in town.
Less power, lower electric bill,
I’m going to get my bonus, yes I will!
Power savings to ROI and new equipment,
The payback was there, we await shipment.
Going to start the New Year with a smile on my face,
With this new system, the boss is off my case.
