Sullair, an industry leader in innovative compressed air solutions since 1965, recently celebrated the first anniversary of the Michigan City Expansion Project, its largest-ever capital expenditure project in Michigan City, Ind.

The approximately $30 million expansion project, completed in February 2021, included the construction of a new 80,000-square-foot fabrication shop. The expansion allowed Sullair to become more vertically integrated while increasing its manufacturing capacities and production of air compressors. The new facility required the company to add more than 25 new full-time jobs, including welders, assemblers, machine operators, and more.

“With the global supply chain issues impacting the manufacturing industry, the expansion of our Michigan City facility could not have come at a better time,” said John Randall, president and CEO of Sullair. “It has provided us with more flexibility in how we operate our business in this ever-changing environment and enables us to better serve our channel partners and customers.”

This expansion follows Sullair and Hitachi investing more than $16 million to upgrade its Michigan City-based rotor shop equipment. Since its founding in 1965, Sullair has designed and manufactured its rotors and air end assemblies in Michigan City.

Randall added, “We’ve been a part of the Michigan City community for more than 55 years, and this investment planted our roots even deeper.”

The Michigan City campus produces air compressors for construction and industrial applications in nearly every vertical. The company also manufactures components such as air ends used in oil and gas applications worldwide.
